Annual refresher training (BLS)
The HSE strongly recommends a refresher session every year between the main three-yearly first aid courses to maintain skills and knowledge.
This is an annual 3hr refresher course and, although not mandatory, these courses help maintain your basic skills and keep you up to date with any changes to first-aid procedures.
This course is aimed at people holding a current first aid certificate however this also the perfect introduction to anyone wishing to learn how to stabilise an unconscious casualty, perform CPR and use an AED (defibrillator).
Course Content
- Approaching and assessing a casualty (D.R. + A.B.C.)
Performing a primary survey & stabilising a casualty that has collapsed & unresponsive
- Medical Emergencies
Treating life threatening conditions including choking, strokes & heart attack
- Basic Life Support
Performing CPR & using a defibrillator (AED)
- Managing severe bleeding
Treating a person who is bleeding, wounded &/or suffering from shock
- Subject-specific training
A short session covering any updates or training specific to your setting
This course includes a certificate of attendance valid for one year. Please note that this does not replace the standard 3-yearly first aid qualifications.
